Prayer for the Healing of a Broken Marriage

(Ottawa Canada)

Dear Heavenly Father,

336x280:

I humbly beseech thee to heal my broken marriage. You instituted the covenant of marriage for mankind as a way to bring two imperfect souls together in love so that each could help the other grow closer to You. I know You hate divorce and it is Your desire for every marriage to last a lifetime and for damaged ones to be healed. My spouse and I have grown apart and our marriage is in ruins as she has lost all hope and now seeks divorce. I realize that the cause rests with both of us, and I am not blameless. My loss of Biblical perspective, my stubbornness, my growing despair, and inability and unwillingness to change for her have hurt her deeply, and made her lose her confidence in both You and I. In my remorse, I have humbly asked You to forgive me for my part in all of this and I know You have willingly done so. Please take away the loneliness, pain and hurt in my heart stemming from my spouse’s continuing rejection of me and her refusal to forgive. Fill it instead with patience and understanding.

There is still so much anger, fear and resentment in the heart of my spouse. I pray that You soften her heart, fill it with Your love and help her forgive all that has gone wrong. Come and be with both of us, for only You can make two broken hearts understand each other. Only You can heal our broken marriage and rebuild the unity, joy and happiness we once shared through loving servitude to one another.

I ask you to send the Holy Spirit to help me walk in faith until we are reconciled, and show me how to become the partner she can trust and love again.

I confidently put my marriage into Your hands, because I know that letting the Evil One destroy it, damage and hurt the well-being of our three children, and turn the once confident and joyful soul of my spouse away from You is not in accordance with Your will.

I ask this in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
